Content and mode of operation

The tasks require listening, clear communication, social flexibility and cooperation — at the same time, insights into group activities are generated. For the teacher, the program provides a valuable opportunity to monitor the dynamics of the class from the sidelines.

Finally, the experiences are unpacked together under the guidance of the instructor to capture the lessons learned.

The award-winning Suomenlinna Experience is a 25-minute short film that tells the fascinating and eventful story of the fortress. The visit also includes access to the Suomenlinna Museum's exhibition and other museums in Suomenlinna.

The goal is to have fun in the spirit of the Olympics with different types of teamwork, wit and concentration in tasks that require concentration.

Camp Olympics is a fun team competition where the team's speed, ingenuity, skills and teamplay are tested in different sports.

Print a T-shirt using your own handmade stencil or by painting directly on the fabric. You’ll get a unique keepsake from the camp to take home.

Let's explore cultural heritage through handicrafts!

Suomenlinna is home to several craftspeople and artists who create their work inspired by Suomenlinna's cultural heritage, the history of the fortress and the archipelago nature. Nordik Kulturkontakt offers various craft workshops for our camp schools on Susisaari in collaboration with the fortress's craftspeople and resident artists.

The content and method of the workshop are always tailored on a case-by-case basis depending on the artist or craftsperson leading the workshop. Creative works can emerge in a traditional darkroom, from litter collected on the shores, or even by dyeing with invasive plants. Students always get to take their creations home as a memento.

The round of the Ehrensvard Society is carried under high vaults and in the caches of dark corridors. Guided tours will introduce you to Suomenlinna's sometimes even unlucky task as a defensive fortress and visit tunnels and casemates. The granite walls were also inextricably linked to the everyday life and living conditions of the fort.

It is worth taking your own flashlight with you to go dark in the tunnels!

Go on an expedition to the unique nature of Suomenlinna!

Goals

The programme develops teamwork and problem-solving skills and opens up new perspectives on biodiversity in the spirit of the explorer.

Content and mode of operation

In the Environmental Detectives program, students have access in small groups to explore and observe the environment through functional tasks. Guided by the map, the groups navigate to six different mission sites in the vicinity of the camp center, where they will be faced with different research challenges.

On this excursion, you will learn to recognize bird species and bird sounds. We will explore the secret life of birds and learn about their habits through interactive games and activities.

The excursion is led by biologist and ornithologist Juha Kuronen.

Dive into the vortices of history!

Who was Hugo Valo? What happened to Vice-Admiral Cronsted in May 1808? For example, you will answer these questions in small groups using mobile devices and a GPS-based map. Small groups navigate around the main islands of Suomenlinna. In this program, imagination and humor are allowed and even desirable!

Goals

Would you be the conquerors of Suomenlinna?

The program explores the historical sites of Suomenlinna, while strengthening cooperation skills — the perfect start for a camp school!

Content and mode of operation

Rumors are circulating on the island - Suomenlinna is in danger! A gamified adventure program that utilizes the mobile-based Seppo platform. Students go out in small groups to navigate to different destinations, where they solve problem tasks together. Perfect for the start of camp school.

Sauna bathing is the perfect way to end an adventurous camp day.
‍
The spacious "Nallen" sauna fits around ten people at a time, and there is plenty of room in the shower and changing room. The sauna is booked for a minimum of two hours, giving girls and boys time to bathe separately on their own turns. From the sauna, it is just a few dozen metres to a swimming dock, where the bravest can take a dip in the sea.

Does pineapple belong in pizza?

This program specifically develops communication and interaction skills, as toppings for pizzas must be agreed with your own pizza group. All students are allowed to participate.

Content and mode of operation

During the pizza trip, students learn about the responsibility of different food choices and their carbon footprint with a fun card game.

At the end of the program, we will have a pizza dinner together!

Considerations

Absolute maximum number of participants 24 people (including adults)!

The pizza shop cannot take into account severe allergies or, for example, a gluten-free diet

Pizzas are prepared and eaten in small groups. Special diets such as vegetarian diets can be considered BY PIZZA GROUP

Let's spend a day admiring fascinating big cats, warm tropical houses, playful bears and other zoo favourites, guided by our own guide.

During the day we enjoy a packed lunch at a hut. Plenty of outdoor activity and exercise builds up without even noticing.

In the mystery of direction^® Utilizing air directions as places to play. The game has the objective of solving various puzzles by team. In this game, Baltic-themed puzzles are solved.

Go on an expedition to the nature of the Baltic Sea!

Goals

The functional exploration guides the student to understand the structures and processes of nature and the human impact on the environment. The programme supports the growth of environmentally responsible thinking and action, develops multi-literacy skills and the interpretation of nature and research results in various forms.

Content and mode of operation

During the Baltic Sea researchers' excursion, students study and observe the environment in small groups and reflect on the significance of the observations. At the end of the programme, the research results will be collated and we will find out what belongs to the Baltic Sea today. We also consider how our own activities affect the state of the Baltic Sea.

Let's go on an expedition together to Vallisaari, which offers both a rich and varied history and a vibrant display of flora and fauna.

In addition to stunning scenery and lush nature, Vallisaari hides fascinating stories from decades past. During the trip, we enjoy a picnic lunch.

Take an evening trip to observe the northern starry sky!

On the excursion you will get acquainted with the constellations, hear mythological stories about their birth and observe the sky with the help of a telescope and binoculars. During the excursion, we will move in the light of flashlights along the reflector path to the southern tip of Suomenlinna and together we will reflect on how man has interpreted and understood the universe through the ages.

An exciting trip to the dark tunnels of King's Gate!

Kustaanmiekka is the southernmost part of Suomenlinna, undisturbed by the lights of Helsinki. Here we can truly experience the atmosphere of a dark archipelago. We make our way through the fortress to Kustaanmiekka island with the help of a reflector trail. We navigate through a secret long tunnel in pairs by candlelight. At King's Gate, if the timing works out, we may spot large passenger ships passing through the narrow Kustaanmiekka strait, coming thrillingly close.

A great alternative to the stargazing trip, if that is not possible due to weather conditions.
